DIY Recipes: Homemade Toothpaste, Tooth powder, teeth whitening and Mouthwash - Fluoride free

You asked for it, are you ready?

It is time to learn how to go totally DIY with your mouth, toothpaste, tooth powders, tooth soap, mouthwashes, toothaches & everything in between.

Using simple natural safe & effective products like raw coconut oil, baking soda, essential oils, Plant Therapy Germ-Fighter Synergy, colloidal silverHerbal Antisepticground cloves (& other herbs & spices), natural unrefined salt, food grade peroxide, food grade diatomaceous earth & edible Clay powder.

Lets get started:

Sweet: But one thing you wont find in my DIY recipes is sweeteners like stevia or xylitol, I know there are many recipes that call for them, but I see no need for them, and like so many people I have talked to I have sensitivities to them both & why do we feel the need to sweeten our mouth & teeth products anyhow? If you use essential oils or some spices that should be enough added flavors &/or sweetness, but even plain with no essential oils, spices or sweeteners these are still great recipes. If you must add stevia to any of the below recipes only use stevia you grew yourself & ground, why? because so much stevia on the market has cheap fillers & aspartame added plus they have pesticides in them.

Fluoride: Ok you might ask why would you want to say good-bye to fluoride? because #1 it is poison & #2 more people are allergic to it than realize it. "Did you know that fluoride, the active ingredient in many toothpaste brands, is a highly toxic substance? When ingested, fluoride increases the incidence of cancer and tumor growth, and disrupts the immune system. It also increases the aging process, is a systemic poison, etc. (article here)". #3 there are plenty of other reasons but that is not what this post is about, so make sure you research the subject. But just let me say there are lots of great new info on raw coconut oil fighting tooth decay better than fluoride ever did, & coconut oil is safe to swallow, good for you & natural. (articles here & here)

Toothpastes That Eat Teeth: And I bet you have heard baking soda is to harsh & abrasive to brush with daily, but did you know that toothpaste is more abrasive than baking soda? On the Relative Dentin Abrasivity scale, baking soda is listed as being considerably less abrasive than any of the commercial brands of toothpaste. Yes it is true, baking soda is better for teeth, see the chart/scale here

Coconut oil is far more effective at fighting, preventing tooth decay than toxic fluoride (Article: Coconut oil halts tooth decay by attacking the bacteria that cause it)

The 2 main ingredients of DIY oral care that can be used separate or together, Baking soda & raw coconut oil.
And as an amazing plus raw coconut oil & baking soda can be a 7 in one DIY body product, so that's more bang for your DIY buck. just a simple mixture of raw coconut oil & baking soda with any optional essential oils you may want to add can be used to brush your teeth, as underarm deodorant, as shaving cream, as a face wash, skin exfoliate, for dandruff on scalp & as a foot moisturizer  (of course wash off face, skin, scalp & feet when done) Simply make up to desired consistency, add a few drops if desired of essential oils like, tea tree, lavender, citrus or peppermint (some can not handle mint under their arms) store in a container with lid & use as needed.

Baking soda: Baking soda is the key ingredient of this (DIY) approach. It serves as a tooth cleanser, odor and bacteria fighter, and even a mouthwash. The uses of baking soda in a dental care plan can actually be very beneficial for the person and the household budget. Bacteria can build up in between teeth and along the gum lines and cause not only gum and tooth decay but also odor issues. In fact one of the key compounds that causes bacteria, Volatile Sulfur, can be eliminated with the use of a baking soda and water paste (article here) Baking soda is also very soothing, heals gums, can help alleviate pain & whiten teeth.

Aluminum in baking soda: Do not listen to the aluminum in baking soda hype, all baking sodas are free of aluminum info here

Raw coconut oil: Dental blessings are yours, "risk-free," when you brush your teeth using coconut oil. That's because coconut oil destroys bacteria that cause bad breath, tooth decay, and gum disease. And Because coconut oil is naturally safe, you won't have to worry about toxicity or poison each time you brush your teeth. If your gums are inflamed or swollen in a few spots, gently rub them with coconut oil and don't be surprised to find quick relief. When it comes to oral health, direct application of coconut oil works best. (article here) So again like baking soda raw coconut oil is very soothing, heals gums, can help alleviate pain & whiten teeth.

Coconut oil has been described as "the healthiest oil on earth." That's quite a remarkable statement. What makes coconut oil so good? What makes it different from all other oils, especially other saturated fats?  (Article: Research On The Benefits of Coconut Oil by The Coconut Research Center)

Here is a great baking soda tip: People on chemo are prone to mouth sores & the nurses caring for them advise only brushing teeth with baking soda & swishing baking soda water in their mouth to heal & sooth the sores & as a pain reliever. I did 12 rounds of chemo in 2010 & I already used DIY toothpaste & never developed the issues but I heard the nurses say it to others on chemo a lot & it was in the book they give you as well. (my story here)

Use Recycled or Up cycled containers for your DIY projects info here

Borax to brush teeth: You can also add borax to your tooth powder or just 1/2 & 1/2 with baking soda for your teeth, great for teeth health & whitening info here

Lets cover toothpaste & tooth powder first shall we?
The basics as stated above are baking soda & raw coconut oil, mix them in whatever consistency you desire or build on them by adding essential oils ground herbs & spices, fresh crushed herbs & spices, natural salt, colloidal silver, food grade peroxide, clay etc get creative & make your own favorite toothpaste or tooth powder that works for you & your family. No need for a recipe just winging it & doing your own thing may be just what gets you the desired results you are wanting out of a DIY tooth product.

Anytime you take or use ACV or lemon juice in your mouth make sure to rinse good afterwards.

I am only sharing recipes I tried for me & my family & that worked well for us, any of the recipes with ground cloves or clove essential oil added are great for abscesses, toothaches, mouth pain & infection also.

Clay powder: For edible clay powder use any of these: white clay, green clay, bentonite clay or Calcium Montmorillonite clay

Essential oils: All of the below DIY tooth brushing products can have essential oil added if desired, & they can all be used as you normally would any other toothpaste. Make ahead & store in container with a sealing lid or make per use. You can follow brushing with a DIY mouthwash if desired.

toothpaste & Tooth powder: these stay good for a long time with nothing extra added, we make 6 month batches & they stay perfectly fine in a seal tight container in the bathroom.

For my teeth brushing routine check it out at the bottom

My personal favorite Germ-Fighter: I highly recommend an essential oil blend that I just love in my toothpaste, tooth powders & mouthwashes The Synergy blend essential oil by Plant Therapy called Germ-Fighter (Compare to Thieves by Young Living) their blog here. Check out this Synergy you might just love it as much as I do (great to clean with too)

Essential oils commonly are used alone or in combos with great results in DIY tooth products & mouth washes etc, if adding essential oils to powders work in with fork.

Tooth soaps: If you have never tried tooth soap you could be missing out on what your mouth needs, but it for sure is an acquired taste, it is pretty basic, use a natural liquid soap like DR Bonners Peppermint or mixed with one of these: pure water, alkaline water, mineral water, essential oil water, Raw honey, Borax water, magnesium water, colloidal silver, peroxide, or an herbal liquid antiseptic like Progena, Dunk toothbrush in liquid or spray toothbrush & brush teeth, this can also be used as a mouthwash.

Toothache, infection, abscesses, sores etc: As mentioned above ground clove & clove essential oil added to tooth products can heal & numb these issues. Germ fighter Synergy essential oil by Plant therapy is also great for numbing & pain relief.  So does chewing on fresh garlic, swishing baking soda water, swishing colloidal silver, oil pulling with raw coconut oil or oil pulling with raw coconut oil, clove essential oil & colloidal silver, applying a cotton ball soaked in Bragg ACV, applying a cotton ball soaked with clove powder (diluted), applying a cotton ball soaked with colloidal silver, applying a cotton ball soaked with garlic oil (diluted) And Brushing with organic turmeric powder is great for infection but can be a bit spicy/hot for some people, so you can mix it with baking soda & or raw coconut oil to help calm the heat, if you can handle it every day add it to your favorite DIY recipe. Turmeric also makes a great teeth whitener.

Food grade diatomaceous earth brushed into teeth as a DE water paste (oil pulling with raw coconut oil is also great for whitening teeth) some also use Epsom salt to brush with as a whitener, & also borax water (1 part Borax to 2 parts warm water till dissolved) Turmeric even though it is spicy/hot is a great as a whitener for those who can handle it, turmeric is even safe used daily & can be added to your favorite DIY recipe.

Great teeth whitening powder: 1 part food grade diatomaceous earth (DE), 1 part baking soda & 1 part ground organic Turmeric. Brush & let sit a minute then rinse with baking soda water. Only use 2 to 3 times a week because DE should not be used daily on

What works best for me

My teeth brushing Routine:  I first Oil pull every morning. Next I spray my toothbrush with colloidal silver & use a tooth powder, the Tooth powder #3 listed above, then I rinse with water. Next I use Either just raw coconut oil or raw coconut oil & peppermint (&/or germ fighter mentioned above) essential oil, this is toothpaste recipe #1. Next I rinse my mouth with colloidal silver sometimes using essential oil &/or baking soda, Mouthwash #3 above. Every few day I also use Turmeric &/or Food grade diatomaceous earth for extra cleaning & whitening.
I brush 3 to 5 times a day depending on need. I do the above routine in the morning & sometimes I do use another DIY recipe for another brushing, but most of the time this is what I do.
I have several metal fillings, & multiple broken teeth, I no longer have pain, abscesses, receding gums or that funky taste from broken teeth, All since switching totally to DIY oral care
