DIY hand, body antibacterial washing powder - Soap alternative gentle enough - Babies, families and sensitive skin

baking sodaHere's a super simple, super cheap, super easy-to-make in your own kitchen, green body scrub and soap alternative for hands that you can use daily.

hand wash baking sodaThis very gentle hand & body washing soap alternative that keeps your hands soft is made easily with baking soda &  essential oils of choice.
Baking soda hand washing: We do not use soap on our body or shampoo etc often at all, we tend to mainly use just baking soda for hands, face, body & hair, & it works amazing while being gentile & effective. Baking soda is great alone or mixed with essential oils to the baking soda like tea tree, lavender, lemon, orange, rosemary, eucalyptus, cinnamon, clove etc. (or germ fighter by Plant Therapy, compare to thieves oil) you can also add more than 1 essential oil to create a combo you love, our favorite is Lemon, Tea tree & Eucalyptus.

This powder works great for young & old alike & great for sensitive skin & skin issues, skin rashes, dry skin, oily skin on & on. Baking soda naturally balances PH of the skin, and  essential oils are antibacterial without the toxins. (A teen favorite  & family favorite for mixing & using, so this makes this a Cheree's Favorite too)

Let the kids help you mix this up, they love to help, it is safe for them to help & they will get a mini aromatherapy dose & it is great for homeschool to show them how to mix cleaners & other DIY items to be used during school hours & in the classroom. As a matter of fact my kids call this our school soap :)

When baking soda is combined with water the resulting reaction turns baking soda into a natural non toxic PH balancing mild antiseptic, according to the textbook "Biology: Life on Earth with Physiology book." And it is rare for anyone to have an allergic reaction because its only ingredients are sodium, hydrogen carbon and oxygen.

baking soda body wash
How to: We use an empty parmesan cheese shaker I add one box of baking soda to it & sit it by the sink (there is also a shaker on the tub because we use it in the shower & bath) I suggest trying it without the essential oils first if you are sensitive to scents or prone to hives or skin issues. If adding the essential oils add 10 to 20 drops (or more) & work into all of the baking soda with a fork.

To wash hands: simply wet hands & sprinkle on the baking soda rub around on hands just like you would soap then wash off, you will fast figure out how much you need.

For body: Use the same way in bath or shower, rub gently on wet skin & rinse.

For hair: sprinkle about 1 tsp into several cups of warm water, stir till dissolved & add to wet hair, work in, rinse then repeat if needed (for more shampoo ideas & conditioner ideas go here)

For a moisturizing body wash: simply add a bit of raw coconut oil to the palm of your hand & shake some of your baking soda into your hand, rub together to mix then wash, hands, face, body, feet whatever & use warm water to wash off.

Great for hunters: If you just use baking soda to wash hands with it is a great no scent options for hunters, my husband loves it. (Options to add epsom salt, borax)

Also great to carry Camping: Great for easy washing of hands & body while camping, & it can be used to wash dishes too.

Lets use some Tropical Traditions Whole Golden Flax Seeds

Organic100% Organic, rich in ALA omega-3, a good source of fiber, clean quality whole flax seeds.

No trans fats, non-GMO, non-allergenic. Flax seed is gluten-free, low carb food. Flax (Linum usitatissimum) is a beautiful blue flowered plant grown on the plains of Central Canada and the North Central United States. Modern research has taken great interest in flaxseed. Study after study confirms that the oil and fiber components of flaxseed have wonderful health benefits.

Because I already use Flax seeds in varying ways it only seemed right to do the Tropical Traditions Flax seeds as my next Tropical Traditions review (& Giveaway, ends tonight) As all my fans know we love Tropical Traditions products, & we have not found a Tropical Traditions product that we do not like. So I find it very odd I had not already tried their brand of Flax seeds, I must have just not thought about them having flax seeds every time I needed to order flax, but trust me I wont forget again.

How do I use flax seeds?

I have a coffee & spice grinder so I can easy grind of flax seeds to add to my smoothies, protein shakes, oatmeal, salads, salad dressings, on sandwiches, in baking, gravies on & on. Using flax seeds ground or the slime is the best way to get the health benefits from them. I also use the ground up flax seeds in a poultice that works great for wounds, cuts, scratches, burns, boils, bites & stings.

Poultice recipe:
  • 4 tbsp of ground golden flax seeds.
  • 3 tbsp of Activated charcoal.
  • 5 drops of essential oil (Lavender, tea tree oil, oregano, or another that works for your need)
  • 1 cup of warm distilled (or filtered) water
  • Mix well & let sit up about 5 to 10 minutes & stir again, apply to area & cover with a wet cloth & cover with gauze & or plastic wrap to keep secure, leave poultice on an hour or 2 or until poultice dries, repeat if needed, store any extra of the mixture in the fridge.
You can also sprout Flax seeds & soak them to use the Flax slime or Flax oil as many call it on burns & cuts or even to drink.

Flax Slime/Flax oil:
  • 2 cups of boiling water
  • 2 tbsp of whole golden flax seeds
  • add flax seeds to boiling water & lower heat to just simmer stirring occasionally for 7 to 10 minutes. The mixture is done when you see the glossy slime with whitish streaks. let cool, You can store in the fridge for up to 10 days, you can leave the seeds in or separate them out & just use the slime. You can also use the slime in the same foods listed above & in a poultice as well.
I used the Tropical Traditions Whole Golden Flax seeds for my normal uses & they were very fresh & worked great.

Info from Tropical Traditions:

FACTS ABOUT FLAXSEED

  • Flaxseed has a high ratio of Linolenic (Omega-3) to Linoleic (omega-6) fatty acids. While many other plant seeds contain a higher ratio of omega-6 fats, flaxseed is the one of the few seeds that contains a much higher ratio of the essential omega-3 fats.
  • Flaxseed oil is one of the richest sources of OMEGA-3 fatty acid, Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) an ESSENTIAL FATTY ACID (EFA). This fatty acid is considered essential, meaning that your body cannot make it but requires it and so must derive all of it from the diet. The average American diet is lacking in this fat. Supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. One serving of Organic Whole Flaxseed provides 9 grms of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Golden Flaxseed is unique in that 48% of its total fat content is omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Flaxseed contains very high amounts of DIETARY FIBER, both SOLUBLE and INSOLUBLE. Golden Flaxseed is 28%-35% fiber, 1/3 of which is soluble, and the other 2/3 insoluble. Soluble fiber also plays an important role in maintaining the “good bacteria” in our bowel, like Lactobacillus Acidophilus and Bifidobacteria. Insoluble fiber increases the bulk of stools.
  • Flaxseed is an outstanding source of many essential nutrients, including: proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, folate, vitamin B-6, pantothenic acid, magnesium, potassium, iron, thiamine, copper, zinc, calcium and phosphorus.

DIY cleaning everything in the Kitchen, wash dishes, clean-up, scrub, sanitize and disinfect naturally - Homemade

DIY all things Kitchen cleaning.

As you can see below, I again use pretty much the same items for my Kitchen cleaning as I do in my other DIY green cleaning around the house.

Some of the things you need for DIY kitchen are:
All things DIY for the whole house, Green cleaning every room: laundry, bathroom, kitchen, living room, dining room, bedrooms, kids bedrooms, nursery, office, floors, walls, ceilings, vehicles, & Pest control.

A DIY Kitchen: How to Green & Healthy, but is DIY as effective, kill germs & bacteria like e-coli & salmonella like commercial kitchen cleaning  products?
Yes, & in many areas they are better because they leave the needed good bacteria behind but do not leave immune compromising toxic residue behind. Check out the first 2 articles in this series (linked to above) for more info on how 7 why they are effective.
Part of the truth of how well they work is how rarely we get sick, the same is true of others I have talked to who have switched to DIY cleaning.

Some info on the cleaning power of Borax for cleaning:
Borax is used as a natural laundry booster, multipurpose cleaner, fungicide, preservative, insecticide, herbicide, disinfectant, dessicant. (Banish Black Mold, Naturally). Borax is odorless, whitish (can have various color impurities), and alkaline. It is not flammable and is not reactive. It can be mixed with most other cleaning agents, (including chlorine bleach). Borax cleans & bleaches by converting some water molecules to hydrogen peroxide. This reaction is better in hotter water. The pH of borax is about 9.5, so it produces a basic solution in water, thereby increasing the effectiveness of bleach and other cleaners. In other chemical reactions, borax acts as a buffer, maintaining a stable pH needed to maintain cleansing chemical reactions. The boron, salt, and/or oxygen of boron inhibit the metabolic processes of many organisms. This characteristic allows borax to disinfect. Borates bonds with other particles to keep ingredients dispersed evenly in a mixture, which maximizes the surface area of active particles to enhance cleaning power. (article)

Others:
The Power of Vinegar, Baking soda & Borax is cleaning & sanitizing are amazing, green & safe. Other ingredients that also effectively kill germs, viruses & bacteria are colloidal silver, essential oils, salt, lemon juice & rubbing alcohol. So when using safe DIY products you are not at all loosing effectiveness & possibly are getting a cleaner home free of chemicals. So going DIY can be healthier: Commercial & Natural vs DIY cleaners & your immune system

Now onto how to make all things DIY kitchen

To keep any mixtures you make ahead fresh longer & to add sanitizing power add colloidal silver. Any of the white vinegar can be replaced with Citrus Vinegar

A few basic cleaners that can be used around the kitchen (& house)

DIY
Basic spray cleaner
Straight white vinegar
Options to add: 1/2 lemon juice, eucalyptus essential oil, or essential oil of choice, 1 tbsp Borax, 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol.
Do not use on Granite or stone, otherwise great for every surface even chrome, a great sanitizer.

Straight 5 percent solution of vinegar kills 99 percent of bacteria, 82 percent of mold, and 80 percent of germs (viruses).

Super Disinfectant sprays
(2 bottles create one system of disinfecting)
1 spray bottle of straight white vinegar
1 spray bottle of straight 3% peroxide
Here is a simple trick, just add the spray top off your spray bottles, 1 to a 32oz bottle of white vinegar & one to a 32oz brown bottle of peroxide, if you decide to add the peroxide to a normal spray bottle keep it in the dark when not in use. It doesn't matter which you use 1st, spray with the vinegar then spray the peroxide, or spray the peroxide then spray the vinegar. You won't get any lingering taste of vinegar or peroxide, and neither is toxic to you if a small amount remains on the produce. Great for cleaning up raw meat juices like chicken, for cutting boards etc, all surfaces (not vinegar on granite or stone). Pairing the two mists killed virtually all Salmonella, Shigella, or E. coli bacteria on heavily contaminated food and surfaces when used in this fashion, making this spray combination more effective at killing these potentially lethal bacteria than chlorine bleach or any commercially available kitchen cleaner. The best results came from using one mist right after the other it is 10 times more effective than using either spray by itself and more effective than mixing the vinegar and peroxide in one sprayer. Simply spray one then the other wipe & rinse if needed, then mist one then the other & allow to air dry. (Article)

Multi purpose Spray cleaner safe for Granite & Stone
Straight 3% peroxide
Always double-check your granite or stone wont be harmed by the peroxide, spot check if in doubt. great for all surfaces even chrome. keep in original brown bottle with spray top or keep in dark when not in use.

1 part lemon juice
1 part filtered water
Store in dark cupboard when not in use.
